About the Speaker:

Richard Aboulafia is Vice President of Analysis at Teal Group. He manages consulting projects in the commercial and military aircraft field and analyzes broader defense and aerospace trends. He has advised numerous companies, including most prime and many second- and third-tier contractors in the US, Europe and Asia. He also writes and edits Teal Group's World Military and Civil Aircraft Briefing, a forecasting tool covering over 135 aircraft programs and markets.

Richard writes publicly about aviation and defense, with numerous articles in Aviation Week and Space Technology, Financial Times, Military Technology, Avmark Aviation Economist, Jane's Intelligence Review and the Asian Wall Street Journal. He has a regular column in AIAA's Aerospace America. Frequently cited as an aviation industry authority by trade and news publications, Richard has also appeared on numerous television news and radio programs including ABC, BBC, Bloomberg, CBS, CNN, NBC, NPR and PBS. He has spoken at numerous conferences, including ATRIF, NAFA, NARA, Network for Aerospace Management in Europe (NAME), and Speednews. He has lectured at the National Defense University and has served as an expert witness in aerospace markets.

Before he joined Teal Group in 1990, Richard analyzed the jet engine market at Jane's Information Group, served as an aerospace industry consultant for an international trade advisory company and supported research projects at the Brookings Institution. He has a Masters degree in War Studies from King’s College, University of London and a Bachelors degree from George Washington University. He lives in downtown Washington, DC with his wife, Casey.

 

 

Bob Noble

Director - Global Partners for 787 Program – The Boeing Co.

 

About the Speaker:

Bob Noble serves as the director of the Global Partners organization supporting the 787 Dreamliner program. He is responsible for maintaining relationships and contractual agreements with the international team participating in the 787 program. Previously he served as director of 787 Supplier Management with responsibility for the Wing and Fuselage Life Cycle Product Teams.

Earlier, Noble was director of North American major structures for Supply Management and Procurement in Boeing Commercial Airplanes. In this position, he oversaw the procurement of major pre-assembled parts from suppliers in North America.  Prior to that assignment he was director of Raw Material and Standards for Supply Management and Procurement where he led the raw material commodities strategies.

He has also held the position of director of Material Program Office, Engineering and Material in the Tulsa Division, where he led the process of subcontracting, purchasing, material control, and warehousing as well as engineering, manufacturing research and design, and the military and commercial program offices.

Noble’s aerospace career began in 1980 with the Lockheed-California Company, where he was a production control supervisor. He joined Rockwell International, now Boeing, in 1982 and held various leadership positions in material, facilities, and program management. He transferred to the Boeing Tulsa Division in November 1994 as 747 program manager.

Noble earned a bachelor of science degree in management from California State University, Long Beach.  He is also active with the Mt. Baker Council of the Boy Scouts of America serving on the Board as president.

Vice President of Finance - Janicki Industries

 

About the Speaker:

Lisa Janicki works as Vice President of Finance for Janicki Industries in Sedro-Woolley.  She currently serves as the President of the Board for the Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC), a 500-member business organization, and is a recent graduate from Leadership Skagit—a 9-month leadership and networking training program.  Lisa volunteers as a financial advisor to the local Catholic grade school and is on the Budget Advisory Committee for Skagit County.

Lisa is a member of Soroptimist International of Sedro-Woolley and in 2004 was selected as the Skagit Women’s Alliance and Network (SWAN) Business & Professional Woman of the Year.  In February 2005, she was picked by her peers as Business Leader of the Year for Skagit County.  The same year, she was also honored by the Archdiocese of Seattle’s Fulcrum Foundation as a Champion of Catholic Education, joining the distinguished list which includes Fr. Robert Spitzer, President of Gonzaga University and Lenny Wilkins, NBA coaching legend.

Lisa graduated with a degree in accounting from Gonzaga University in 1982 and went to work for Price Waterhouse in Anchorage, Alaska.  She is married to Mike Janicki (GU 1981-Civil Engineering) and they have 4 sons and 1 daughter between the ages of 19 and 24 years old.

John Graham is President of Fulcrum Associates and has over thirty years of experience in the manufacturing industry.  Fulcrum Associates, a consulting and training firm, offers business management products and services to small and medium sized companies.  Fulcrum’s Business Management System (BMS 2000) is AS9100 compliant and has been successfully introduced into several companies demonstrating the ability to significantly improve organizational efficiencies.

John has provided ISO 9000 consulting services to local manufacturing companies since 1990.  He has assisted several aerospace suppliers with successful implementation of the AS9100 standard.  The local AS9100 Users Group, started by John in 1999 as the D1-9000 Users Group, continues to serve the needs of the local aerospace suppliers today.  John is actively involved in the Americas Aerospace Quality Group (AAQG).

Composite Fabrication Manager - Janicki Industries

About the Speaker:

Ronald Grubb was born and raised in West Jefferson, Ohio.  After graduation from West Jefferson High he joined the U.S. Navy and served on active duty for 30 years. During his Navy career he rose to the rank of Command Master Chief.   A seasoned manager, he has extensive experience in providing direction and leadership for large organizations.  Business and management experiences include small business ownership, retail sales and management at Home Depot, and supervising production shift work in ship construction and ship repair as a Naval shipyard ship superintendent.  

Positions at Janicki Industries have included Composite Swing Shift Supervisor, Safety Manager and his current position as Composite Manager.   The Composite Fabrication Department consists of process engineers, composite fabric lay up teams, oven operators, scaffolding and maintenance persons, carbon panel fabrication shop, water jet operations, and resin infusion teams all operating around the clock, seven days a week.

A graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Ron has a Bachelors Degree in Management from Excelsior University.  Ron, his wife, Akiko and son Dean live in Sudden Valley, WA. They enjoy skiing, hiking and playing golf.

Process Engineer – Infusions - Janicki Industries

About the Speaker:

Greg Applewhite was born and raised in the Midwest.  After graduating from Hudson High School in Wisconsin, he attended College at Winona State University, MN.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Composite Materials Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanics and a minor in Mathematics.  His studies included many types of composite manufacturing processes from hand lay-up to RTM methods.  Lab experiences include a wide range of Testing and Analysis for both Thermal and Mechanical properties.

Since joining the Janicki team, Greg has been a process engineer in the composite fabrication department.  Currently managing infusions, his duties include improving infusion techniques as well as addressing problems throughout the manufacturing floor.

Greg and his fiancé currently live in Burlington, WA.  He enjoys riding his motorcycles and plays rugby for Chuckanut Bay.

 

 

Norbert Gaillard

About the Speaker:

Norbert Gaillard represents CFM International, a 50/50 joint company from General Electric Company and Snecma, in front of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group (BCAG). Norbert is responsible for the good communication between CFM and BCAG and for the management of the cross-functional workforce assigned to the Boeing 737 program. His role includes supporting Boeing and the customers during delivery of new airplanes. Also, Norbert supports the Boeing/CFM joint effort to prepare the future.

More recently, Norbert also represents the Safran Group in the role of National Executive, in front of the Boeing Company as well as the local institutions in the Pacific Northwest. This role is to reinforce the identity and visibility of the Safran Group and to improve collectively the efficiency of the Companies and personnel based in or visiting the country.

His current position is Director of the Safran USA, Inc. office in Seattle and Vice President International Business Development and National Executive for The Boeing Company.

Prior to his current assignment, Norbert has been a key contributor for the evaluation, launch and development of the Next Generation 737 family, including in 1993-1994, the responsibility of an IPT (Integrated Product Team), the Engine Build Up Team, within Boeing.

Norbert is a member of the Board of Director of the French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest (FACC-PNW). In 2003, he was appointed CCE (Conseiller au Commerce Exterieur).

The key milestones of his career, mostly at Snecma, are:

Ø      Test engineer then Snecma focal at Rolls-Royce in England for the Concorde Program

Ø      Commercial engine test cell manager for Snecma Villaroche

Ø      CFM interface at Rohr Industries (in San Diego, CA) for 2 years for the A320 program

Ø      Responsible for the installation of the CFM engine on the A340 airplane

Ø      Responsible for the new CFM applications for Snecma Technical Division and in charge of the communication with the Airframers.  

Norbert, a graduate from 2 engineering schools in Paris (ESTACA in 1972 and ESTA in 1973) specialized in the field of propulsion and aeronautics.

About the Speaker:

Simon F Pickup is Director of Business Operations and Analysis at Airbus’ North American commercial subsidiary: Airbus North America Sales, Inc. This Herndon, Virginia based subsidiary deals exclusively with American and Canadian airlines, and provides all the commercial functions required to assist and support airlines in their acquisition of Airbus aircraft: Sales, Marketing, Contract, Legal and Customer Finance.

Mr. Pickup joined Airbus in 1988 and spent the first half of his career as a Toulouse based Customer Marketing Manager, working primarily on sales and marketing campaigns in the Indian subcontinent and South East Asia. He transferred to Airbus North America in 1995 and was promoted to Airline Marketing Director. He has gained over 16 years of experience in the marketing process – primarily assisting airlines in their analyses of aircraft performance, economics and fleet planning.

In his latest role since 2004, Mr. Pickup liaises with Airbus' Toulouse headquarters on market planning, research and analysis matters.

In addition to his internal functions, Mr. Pickup also represents Airbus North America at a variety of external finance and valuation conferences in the USA and Canada. His economic and product knowledge allows him to demonstrate the value added benefits and positive attributes of the Airbus family of aircraft to a variety of audiences.

He holds a Bachelor's degree from Leeds University and a Master's degree in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University - both in the United Kingdom.
