Speaker Bio

Richard Aboulafia is Vice President of Analysis at Teal Group. He manages consulting projects in the commercial and military aircraft field and analyzes broader defense and aerospace trends. He has advised numerous companies, including most prime and many second- and third-tier contractors in the US, Europe and Asia. He also writes and edits Teal Group's World Military and Civil Aircraft Briefing, a forecasting tool covering over 135 aircraft programs and markets.

Richard writes publicly about aviation and defense, with numerous articles in Aviation Week and Space Technology, Financial Times, Military Technology, Avmark Aviation Economist, Jane's Intelligence Review and the Asian Wall Street Journal. He has a regular column in AIAA's Aerospace America. Frequently cited as an aviation industry authority by trade and news publications, Richard has also appeared on numerous television news and radio programs including ABC, BBC, Bloomberg, CBS, CNN, NBC, NPR and PBS. He has spoken at numerous conferences, including ATRIF, NAFA, NARA, Network for Aerospace Management in Europe (NAME), and Speednews. He has lectured at the National Defense University and has served as an expert witness in aerospace markets.

Before he joined Teal Group in 1990, Richard analyzed the jet engine market at Jane's Information Group, served as an aerospace industry consultant for an international trade advisory company and supported research projects at the Brookings Institution. He has a Masters degree in War Studies from King’s College, University of London and a Bachelors degree from George Washington University. He lives in downtown Washington, DC with his wife, Casey.

Speaker Bio

George L. Maffeo was named vice president of Supplier Management Airplane Programs in April 2007. In this position, he is responsible for supplier program management for the 737, 747, 767 and 777 airplane programs.

Previously, Maffeo led the Propulsion organization, responsible for Engine Management, Propulsion Procurement and the related procurement processes and tools for all Boeing commercial airplanes produced in the Puget Sound area.

From March 2003 to December 2004, Maffeo was director of Standards, Systems and Equipment for the procurement of avionics and flight systems, electrical and environmental systems, fuel systems, wheels and brakes, hydraulics, mechanical equipment and standards for all commercial airplane models produced in the Puget Sound area.

Maffeo was director of Customer Selected Equipment from November 1995 to March 2003, and was responsible for the procurement of passenger seats, in-flight entertainment, galleys, galley inserts, miscellaneous equipment, lavatories, escape slides, the Boeing Signature Interior for the 767, and crew seating for all Boeing commercial airplanes produced in Puget Sound.

Maffeo began his career in 1978 in the Fabrication Division as a raw material buyer and became a manager in Purchased Outside Production in 1985.

In 1991, Maffeo was promoted to senior manager for suppliers in China, Australia and Indonesia. He moved to Procurement Quality Assurance in 1992 to oversee international field operations.

Maffeo is a graduate of Gonzaga University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He also attended The Wharton School of Business Advanced Management Program in October 2000.

John Anderson is a Vice President and Senior Consultant Manager in the Export Practice of the JPMorgan Trade Management Consulting group. Working with JPMorgan (and formerly Vastera) over the past six years, John has performed and led consulting engagements involving jurisdiction determination (ITAR/EAR), import/export classification, foreign national and restricted party screening, export licensing, and encryption related export controls.

John’s trade compliance experience is truly global, helping major aerospace and defense industry clients to comply with the local export control regulations in countries such as the UK, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Singapore, and China. John has also supported clients in enforcement cases and participated in industry groups such as SIA when he helped to organize the Spring 2006 Advanced ITAR conference in Denver, Colorado.

John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

His roles have always brought him to innovate and find new solutions to enable businesses to be more productive and competitive while maintaining customer satisfaction.

During a successful business career spanning over thirty-five years, Dr. Burton has been involved in corporate and education endeavors that span the globe.  In his most recent role, he is the Founder and the President of the Dunlap-Stone University, a nationally accredited university, where he is constantly involved in managing activities impacting businesses and governments in more than one hundred forty countries around the world through the university’s International Import-Export Institute (IIEI).

In additional to its prestigious international trade related degree programs, the IIEI is recognized globally for its pioneering effort in establishing nine international trade certification programs, which are now the accepted standard in over 90 countries around the world. The programs help organizations and individuals validate their proficiency in specific trade related vocations within the international trade industry.  All of the top fifty U.S. aerospace and defense contractors rely on the IIEI’s Certified U.S. Export Compliance OfficerÒ program to verify the proficiency of their export compliance personnel. In 2005, the government of the People’s Republic of China contracted with IIEI to incorporate IIEI’s certification program across China, and in May 2006, in an effort to validate the proficiency of its workforce, China chose IIEI to develop and offer the Certified P.R.C. Export Compliance OfficerÒ Program.

Dr. Burton’s current activities also focus on trade compliance as an emerging global profession and distance learning. He is in demand as a speaker nationally and internationally on a wide range of trade and compliance related topics, including trade compliance ethics, Best Practices in Trade Compliance, the changing environment of compliance and strategic integration of trade compliance within the organization of the 21st century.

Dr Burton has served as a Professor of Strategic Management at a major university for over a decade and a half. He completed his Doctor of Business Administration with Honors at Nova Southeastern University and received his M.B.A. from the University of Oregon’s Graduate School of Management graduating summa cum laude.  He obtained a BS in Marketing and BA in Clinical Psychology with Honors from the University of Oregon. He is a lifetime member of the Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration. He is a member of the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations (associated with the Council of Foreign Relations, Washington, DC) and an associate member of the Society for International Affairs.

Rick Baker is a recognized Operations Expert with over 30 years of repositioning & Lean experience.  Rick has been involved with moving companies both internationally as well as nationally, across town, across state, across country, across borders, and across cultures.  Managing both simple and complex multi-site moves both to green fields and existing facilities, including divesting and outsourcing of Products and Processes.  Rick has held the position of Director of Operations for AlliedSignal, President of Cavan Communities, and Vice President of Engineering & Operations for Precor International.  Rick’s involvement has resulted in over a $1 Billion of Merger & Acquisition Revenues and $40 Million in synergy savings.

3D Everywhere and MBD Solutions

Overview

 3D Engineering data is now the norm for aircraft design; an explanation of the value of this data and how it can be used by suppliers.

We will explain and demonstrate the use of MBD data within native CATIA V5 and other methods for low-cost review.

We will demonstrate a sample CATIA V5 dataset and show a non CATIA method of in process and final inspection.

  • Using 2 types of PDFs to comply with viewing MBD data
  • Presenting dimensions for in process inspection and a point cloud to satisfy the General Notes profile tolerance requirement

Speaker Bio

Ed Bullock is a senior sales consultant in the CAD/CAM/CAE, oops I mean PLM, industry. His career with Dassault Systemes began in 1984 and his goal is to add value to Pacific NW aerospace suppliers through technology, knowledge-transfer and relationship building.

Kaae Rillos has been in the aircraft manufacturing industry since 1979 and is currently the president of Rillos Engineering (a Boeing Tier 1 supplier) and XDT Software provider. His background includes NC Programming, Inspection Programming, Tool Design, Airframe Design, Data translation and UNIX Systems Administration.

Doug McCarville is a Professional Engineer and Technical Fellow in the Boeing Phantom Works division.  His primary area of expertise is composite material processing.  During his 22 years at Boeing, he has worked a variety of commercial, space, and military programs: F-22, JSF, 777, 787, missiles, next generation antennas, and unmanned aerial vehicles. He has 22 patents in the field of composite design, tooling, and processing methods. He has degrees in Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Systems Engineers, and is currently completing a dissertation for a Ph. D. in Engineering Management. He teaches as an adjunct professor for the Oregon Institute of Technology and University of Washington.  He is active in external affiliations; such as ASC, SAE, AUVSI, and recently completed a two year stand as the chairman for SAMPE's Unmanned Aerial Systems Committee.

Paul Sadesky is presently President of National Tooling Technologies, a firm representing Coast Composites, Inc. in the development and production of tooling applications for composite structures supporting the aerospace market. Paul has been representing Coast Composites for over 17 years. Prior, he was Senior Manager of Quality Process Engineering at Northrop B2 Division. He holds a BS degree in Business from University of Redlands.

Kevin Steck: Since 1991, Kevin has overseen business activities in Kent and production in Ellensburg, WA for Composites Atlantic. He directs commercial and technical interfaces with customers, proposal and sales initiatives, critical sourcing activities, and certain production and technology efforts in support of selected US and international contracts for the company. His work experience includes composite engineering and program management in the US Fleet Ballistic Missile Programs at Hercules, Inc and Composite Business Development with The Nordam Group and Hexcel Structures. He has published papers on composite damage and repair. He has a BSCE from Brigham Young University and an MBA from The University of Utah.

Accelerate Skills Training with Simulation Technology

This presentation will demonstrate how interactive 3D technology can accelerate the training of the PNAA workforce to substantially reduce the time needed to bring personnel to a productive performance level.  Additionally, it will show how manufacturers utilize the 3D technology solutions to improve their sales and marketing, existing business processes, and reduce the cost of marketing, operations and maintenance.

Speaker Bio

Tom Smith’s working experience started with main frame computers at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center during Apollo 9 through 15. He was a computer programmer with the STADAN Tracking Network which was the central “switch” for communication links between all manned and un-manned space vehicles and all earth-bound stations.

From NASA, he started working on data file structures for several US Government departments, including Labor, Justice and Defense. He used his Data Structure expertise to develop communication software packages which were marketed to US Congressmen and Senators as a means to respond to their increasing amounts of constituent mail. He created the first computer generated Federal Elections Commission campaign donation accounting system. He was also on the development team for the design and creation of a multi-event/multi-venue ticketing system which has developed into what is now called Ticketmaster.

As a vocation, Thomas started flight training in 1970 and worked his way up to ATP with over 3,000 hours. He is type certified in the Boeing 727 and holds CFI, MEI, and CFII certificates.

In 1984, Tom started a full service direct marketing production company / advertising agency. He expanded his Marketing expertise by going to the University of Missouri, Kansas City and taking a post graduate course and achieving his Professional Direct Marketer certification.

Mr. Smith created and volunteered for a small 501c3 company which generates funds to support scholarship programs for poor children in 3rd world countries. He started in Brazil, and expanded into South Africa before turning it over to volunteers in the regions.

Since 2005, Thomas is a Vice President of EON Reality, specializing in the use of Interactive 3D Virtual Reality content management systems. His specialty is in the field of aerospace, working with organizations such as Honeywell and The Boeing Co.

Marly Bergerud left a lifetime in the arena of higher education with a breadth and depth of rich experiences and established her own company, Strategic Alliance Solutions.  Her career in higher education was as a senior level manager within the California Community Colleges: as a Dean of Business and IT at Saddleback College and as Vice President, Workforce and Economic Development at DeAnza College. Her reputation is that of a nationally recognized educational leader specializing in technology innovation and restructuring for the workforce of the 21st century and, as such, she has authored many published textbooks. Further, Marly enjoyed creation and implementation of many experiential learning centers including that of a Virtual Reality environment.  She joined EON Reality in 2004 where she serves as an advisor and consultant to businesses and educational institutions for analysis, design, and implementation of interactive 3D innovative, experiential learning systems, leading edge technologies and alternative modes of delivery (e-learning). Marly’s work with EON Reality is dedicated to building collaborations that “see the future” for the advancement and use of beneficial technologies for changing the way people work and people learn. 

  Over 30 years experience in designing and developing, innovative, highly effective technology-based training solutions and a breadth and depth of rich experiences in management and technology leadership. 

  Served as an advisor to technology firms and provided consulting for analysis, design, and implementation of innovative learning systems, leading edge technologies and alternative modes of delivery. 

  A distinguished career in higher education included serving as Vice President, Workforce and Economic Development, De Anza College in Cupertino, CA; and Dean, Business Science Division and Institutional Advancement, Saddleback College, Mission Viejo, CA.  Prior to her leadership and management experience, Marly Bergerud was a Professor of Business at Cypress College, Cypress, CA.  

  Co-author of twenty-four published and widely used computer technology textbooks. 

  B.S. degree from California State University, Fresno, and a M.S. degree from the University of Southern California. 

  Marly is a nationally recognized educational leader and senior level manager specializing in technology innovation, approaches for creating self-sustaining environments, and restructuring for the workforce of the 21st century. 

  Additionally, Marly is acknowledged nationally as a seminar presenter and futuristic educational consultant dedicated to building collaborations that “see the future” for the advancement and use of beneficial, interactive and compelling technologies for changing the way people work and people learn.
