The Lighthouse for the Blind Inc. is a private not-for-profit social enterprise, providing employment, support, and training opportunities since 1918, currently employing around 500 employees, over 270 employees who are blind, DeafBlind, or blind with other disabilities. These employees make aerospace parts, office products, hydration systems, and a myriad of other machined products for customers such as The Boeing Company and the Federal Government. The Lighthouse also operates AbilityOne Base Supply Centers up and down the west coast of the U.S., provides managed services, including appointment setting, quality assurance, account reconciliation, contract close out, and other administrative services for customers such as the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Army.
In addition to providing employment opportunities, programs, and support services for employees who are blind and DeafBlind, the Lighthouse operates a Low Vision Clinic and store, offers computer training classes, braille courses, an acclaimed DeafBlind Retreat, and DeafBlind Community Classes, and educates elementary school students about blindness.
