2025 Woman of the Year

The PNAA WIA Woman of the Year Award recognizes a woman who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and success over several years. The nominee will have a track record of long-term achievements, professional growth, and community involvement and has distinguished herself in her organization, her profession, and her community. This woman is known for her positive influence and competent abilities. The Nominee epitomizes the values for which PNAA stands and represents the best of who we are as women and as leaders.

Gretchen’s exceptional leadership spans over three decades, with a career dedicated to advancing Mid-Mountain Materials, Inc. alongside her brother, John Knapp. As Chief Operating Officer, Gretchen has overseen operations, human resources, marketing, and company culture, all while honoring their father’s legacy of producing environmentally protective materials for manufacturing plants. Her leadership has helped the company thrive and grow in an ever-evolving industry, driving success through strategic innovation and deep-rooted values.

 Gretchen’s journey began early, working hands-on in the family business before gaining experience in public relations and marketing. In 1990, she returned to Mid-Mountain during a period of significant growth, where she held key roles in customer service, purchasing, and marketing, eventually rising to Vice President and Senior Vice President. Today, she plays an integral role in overseeing new initiatives, such as ERP implementation and plant automation, all while ensuring the company remains a leader in its field. Mid-Mountain has earned multiple prestigious awards under her leadership, including CAMPS Manufacturer of the Year and Small Business Magazine’s Washington Manufacturer of the Year.

 Beyond her professional achievements, Gretchen is deeply involved in her community and the manufacturing industry. She has served on several boards, including the CAMPS Executive Board and the Membership Committee, and has actively advocated for the industry in Washington, D.C. Through all her accomplishments, Gretchen remains proud of her greatest achievement—her children—and the life lessons she continues to impart. As she prepares for retirement and a new chapter in Cle Elum, she looks forward to dedicating more time to family, volunteerism, and her continued commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders.
